In Romania, the Enel Group serves 2.8 million customers through its supply and distribution network, while Enel Green Power owns and operates renewable generation plants.

Enel in Romania – milestones:

July 2004

Signing of the privatization contract for electricity distribution companies – Electrica Banat and Electrica Dobrogea. This was the first privatization process completed by the Romanian state in the power distribution sector.

April 2005

Enel completes the acquisition of a majority stake (51%) in Electrica Banat and Electrica Dobrogea.

February 2006

Electrica Banat and Electrica Dobrogea become Enel Electrica Banat and Enel Electrica Dobrogea.

June 2006

Enel wins the bid for the acquisition of Electrica Muntenia Sud.

July 2007

The privatization contract for Electrica Muntenia Sud is signed making Enel the majority shareholder in the company.

July 2007

Unbundling of distribution and supply activities takes place. Enel Electrica Banat and Enel Electrica Dobrogea merge to become Enel Energie and Enel Distributie Banat, Enel Distributie Dobrogea and Enel Servicii Comune are established.

June 2008

Completion of Electrica Muntenia Sud acquisition.

July 2009

Muntenia Sud activities are separated; Enel Energie Muntenia and Enel Distributie Muntenia are established.

Enel is one of the most important electricity suppliers in Romania, with a significant market share and client portfolio in both the regulated and free energy markets. Enel’s operations in the electricity supply sector include companies Enel Energie and Enel Energie Muntenia, which supply electricity in the three areas where Enel is present.

Enel Energie supplies electricity to Banat (Timis, Arad, Hunedoara, Caras-Severin counties) and Dobrogea (Constanta, Calarasi, Tulcea, Ialomita counties) and serves 1,450,000 clients

Enel Energie Muntenia supplies electricity to the Muntenia Sud area (Bucharest city, Ilfov and Giurgiu counties), where the company has approximately 1,100,000 clients.

 

Distribution Business:  E-Distribuţie Banat, E-Distribuţie Dobrogea, E-Distribuţie Muntenia

The distribution companies are responsible for the management and modernization of the power grids in the respective areas. Their main objective is to guarantee the quality of the distribution service.

E-Distribuţie Banat manages the network in Banat, Timis, Arad, Hunedoara and Caras-Severin counties.

E-Distribuţie Dobrogea operates the network in Dobrogea, Constanta, Calarasi, Tulcea and Ialomita counties.

E-Distribuţie Muntenia manages the network in the Muntenia Sud area, Bucharest city, Ilfov and Giurgiu counties.

Production Business: Enel Green Power Romania

Enel Green Power is the Enel Group Company dedicated to developing and managing energy generation from renewable sources in Italy and throughout the world. It is responsible for all of the Enel Group’s activities in wind, solar, geothermal and run-of-the-river hydroelectric fields. 

Enel Green Power Romania is Enel Green Power’s local subsidiary. It develops electricity generation projects from wind sources in the Banat and Dobrogea regions. Currently, a series of wind power projects are operational in these areas.
